Born in Pretoria (South-Africa) in 1982, Smit lives and works in Cape Town and is known for his large canvasses and unique sculptures and has been exhibiting locally and internationally for nearly 10 years. He has already established a substantial international following with collectors ranging from European Investment Bank, Laurence Graff from Delaire Wine Estate to the Rand Merchant Bank.
Smit’s popularity is indeed growing on a global scale, with a highlight being the use of an image of his for the cover of a Christie’s auction catalogue in London. This piece of work on the auction sold for three times the reserve price.
